Village Fête 2004

The change of venue did nothing to faze the crowds gathered for this year’s Wincle Fete. The weather was kind and there were the usual attractions for young and old with over 210 runners competing in the 2 fell runs. The route of the run was slightly extended for the senior runners this year, resulting in a distance of 9km and a new competition was started for the juniors. The fastest time over the full distance was 36 minutes 6 seconds, all competitors returned happily and were awarded with their customary trout.

It was good to see Lucinda and David Moir again who returned to open the fête, while Guy Milner handled his master of ceremonies role like a natural.

The children of Wincle School really stood out in their brightly coloured costumes for their country dancing performance, they generated quite a crowd. This year’s Pet Show attracted a large number of canine fans and the sight of a Jack Russell trying to master the agility course (most of which was a foot higher than him) was very amusing … as was the runaway pony, who clearly had his eye on a role in the next Lloyds TSB bank advert! Photos from the fête are on display in the Ship Inn. Thanks to everyone involved, especially Ian and Angela for hosting the event. The fête raised £5,000 for church funds.
