Wincle Fête
Last year's fête and fell run took place at Tolls Farm on the banks of the Dane on Saturday 2nd June 2007. Sunshine and blue skies ensured a good turnout - in fact it was almost be a record year! Opened by Hilda Gaddum, the local councillor, the event was soon in full swing. Home made cakes in the tea tent were once again a main attraction, but the bouncy slide, pet show, plate smashing and plant stall were all popular, too. The atmosphere was made even sunnier by Mart Rodgers Manchester Jazz, who played throughout the afternoon.
After its introduction to the annual calendar in 2006, the scarecrow competition attracted some outstanding entries, and drew visitors from far afield to view them, The winner was the excellent Doctor Who and Dalek by the Miller family at Conifers at the top of Barlow Hill, the group award went to Danebridge residents for Danebridge on Sea, and most humorous entry to Alleyne and Diane Parry for their (slightly naughty) pair of scarecrows that mercifully left quite a lot to the imagination.
Wincle Trout Run
A demanding 9km fell run across typical Peak District terrain, the Wincle Trout Run has become very popular in the last few years. And not least because there is a trout for every runner who completes the course.
There is also a Juniors race across a shorter distance, also well attended.
Last year's runs, both senior and junior, were once again a great success. The senior race was fully subscribed in advance, but luckily – thanks to no shows – we did manage to find a few places for those runners who still turned up on the day, so nobody went home disappointed. Judging by the photos (see links below) everyone who ran had a great race.
Thanks to all the many runners who participated, and we hope to see you again this year.
The next run will be on 31st May 2008 from a new venue, Burnt House Farm, Wincle – make a note in your diary now and, as ever, book early to avoid disappointment. You can download the 2008 entry form by clicking the link below.
